3d DCA Drop Box Reinstituted.....Kinda!

It appears the DCBA has listened to our whines concerns and sorta kinda maybe put together a new 3d DCA drop box:

As a courtesy to attorneys and any customers filing documents for the Third District Court of 

Appeals (3rd DCA), a drop off box will be established in room 137, The handling of the contents of this box will be as follows:

• Drop off box for 3rd DCA pleading will be located by the entrance door of room #137.
• A clerk in the New Suits Unit will pick up this box at 4:00 pm daily and review the contents to ensure that all pleadings are directed to the 3rd DCA.
• Pleadings will be placed in a postal carry bag labeled 3rd DCA.
• A Mail Center clerk will pick up the postal bag at approximately 10:00am the following business day.
• The Mail Center clerk will deliver the postal bag to 3rd DCA at approximately 2:00 pm

.  Please be aware that all documents deposited in the Clerk's drop off box will not be delivered
   to the 3rd DCA until the following business day. Any time sensitive documents should
   be filed directly at the 3rd DCA located at 2001 SW 117th Ave., Miami, Florida 33175

Is it just me or is there something needlessly pedantic about this announcement?

"New Suits Unit," I'm pretty sure that was a glam band from the 80s.

And I'm glad the specified "postal carry bag" will be labeled "3rd DCA" as opposed to, say, MetroZoo, though sometimes one can easily be confused with the other.

Breaking -- DCBA to Shutter Courthouse Night Box!

Like many of you, I received a note this morning from the DCBA, marking yet another passage of an era:

The Dade County Bar Association will no longer provide a filing box at the Dade County Courthouse for Third District Court of Appeal filings. All filings can now be made at the Third District Court of Appeal, in the night filing box located adjacent to the entrance steps at the Third District Court of Appeal, which is located at 2001 SW 117 Avenue, in Miami, Florida.  

Attorneys can now file directly at the Third District Court of Appeal throughout the evening and early morning. Documents place in the box prior to 8:00 a.m. will be clocked in as being "nightbox" filed as of the previous business day. There is no fee for using the filing box at the Third District Court of Appeal.

Since 1976, the DCBA has maintained a night filing box for the Third District Court of Appeal, located in the Clerk's Office at the Dade County Courthouse. Due to budget cuts affecting the Clerk of the Courts, that office reduced its hours and commenced closing at 4:00 p.m., thus eliminating the option of night filing.

Who else can remember late-night rushes to 73 West Flagler to drop off your expertly written pleading, followed by libations at Sally Russells, at which point everyone promptly forgot what case they were working on?

Song For The Courthouse Nightbox

I received a rather abrupt "Dear SFL" letter from one of my nearest and dearest true loves, the courthouse nightbox:

Severe cuts recently made to the Clerk's Budgets by the Florida Legislature have required significant reductions in personnel.

As a result, effective July 6th, the Clerk's office will no longer be providing additional hours for filing pleadings. Pleadings must be filed, no later than 4 p.m.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Well, I'm stunned. I mean, I knew we were having some problems, a little tiff now and then when I was trying to get something to the 3d and she was feeling...I don't know....cranky, I mean it's ok you don't always have to be in the mood, we can have different feelings at different times...but this?

So sudden, so curt.
