Good News -- Divorce Filings Are Up!

So, Super Bowl.

Also, Beyoncé, Clydesdales, and a 34 minute power outage.

There, my work here is done!

In other news, time to get happy because divorce work is up, up, up:
‘It’s frenetic. I don’t know what happened. Literally, the phones are ringing every day and people are coming in, if not daily, than every other day,” said Jeffrey Fisher, a West Palm Beach attorney.

People who see Fisher mean business, too. His rate is a lofty $675 an hour, so casual talks with Fisher about a marital split aren’t likely.

Fisher thinks divorce calls are up because the economy has improved. The stock market is up, real estate prices are recovering and assets, in general, are more liquid.
I agree with Jeff -- nothing says the good times are back better than serving your loser spouse with papers.

And how was your weekend?

"Most Effective" Ed Davis Lawsuit Profiled in Toronto Star!

Hi kids, well that was actually a pretty interesting football game.

And by that I mean the massive "Tron" halftime reenactment, the 2008 nostalgia (Usher?), that creative version of the national anthem, and the emasculating moment when Cameron Diaz hand fed popcorn to A-Rod during America's biggest and most-watched sporting event.

That, plus Richard Lewis!

Good times.

Speaking of good times, I see that one of the DBR's "Most Effective Lawyer" nominees, Ed Davis, gets the love in a profile of the decades-long case that brought Ed right to the precipice of the promised land -- just like Moses and/or the Steelers.

Oh well, there's always next year.

Do You Care About "The Google"?

So it was fun last night yada yada yada but "Who Dat" officially jumped the shark for me at the 4000th onscreen shoutout, somewhere around 8:30 am yesterday.

Kids, if Boomer is yelling a "hip" catchphrase it either was never hip or stopped being hip a very long time ago.

Speaking of a long time ago, I enjoyed the history of the AFL they broadcast on Saturday, with Broadway Joe at the Miami Touchdown Club and that classic Hank Stram sideline commentary ("Just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys.").

Old Hank was an awesome radio announcer too, btw, if you were stuck listening to latenight football under the covers on your little blue am radio after your folks told you to go to bed.

Or have I shared too much?

Foley & Lardner's Mark Neuberger thinks you should care about your online presence:
Some job candidates announce their desire for a new job on their LinkedIn or other networking site. But remember your boss might be looking at that site, too.

"You need to think about what your purpose is on there," says Mark Neuberger, a lawyer with Foley & Lardner in Miami.

"You can manage your persona and reputation online," he says. Neuberger is on LinkedIn, for example, but is careful not to reveal his clients through connections on the site.
Good advice.

Let's see what Mark actually does reveal about himself on his LinkedIn profile:
Management side labor and employment attorney handing all aspects of traditional labor relations as well as federal, state court and administrative agency litigation relating to anti-discrimination statutes and all other employment laws; advice and counsel on all aspects of human resource management; negotiation and preparation of executive employment agreements as well as separation agreements; conduct internal investigations; representation of management in collective bargaining, labor arbitration and matters before the NLRB; conduct in-house training on sexual harassment and diversity in the workplace.
Wow, impressive and all, but that reads to me like a really really long timesheet entry.

They don't allow block billing anymore!!

I'm gonna have to scrub all that stuff on mine about Gin Gibsons, windsurfing, Bo Derek, oh hail I better just scrub the whole danged thing.

SFL Friday -- Super Bowl Weekend!!

Well kids I've had a tough week so I am cutting out early to do some shark-free windsurfing.

Anyone who remember the 'Aints, Archie Manning, 0-14, bags on head, hail even Jim Everett will have a soft spot for the boys from New Orleans.

But whatever you do this weekend, keep in mind there are lots of ways to give back and justify your extravagant, poolside, big screen Super Bowl parties.

Here's one I particularly like.

And don't forget to close your browsers, visit Walgreen's often, and eat lots of watermelon (seriously).

Have a great weekend!
