Open Letter To Bill McCollum (This Time With Esperanto!)

In the spirit of goodwill and universal peace and understanding, I offer this polite correspondence to our Attorney General -- with a related note to our beloved 3d DCA entirely in Esperanto, the language of love (and Star Trek):
Dear Bill:
You're a schmuck.
It's bad enough you pushed the State to waste $120,000 on an "expert" whose prior testimony an Arkansas judge found "worthless."
Then Judge Lederman found his testimony unreliable and "not consistent with the science."
Then you take an appeal.
Then he allegedly engages in "long stroke" luggage management techniques with a Rentboy.
Then you don't act like a grown-up lawyer and withdraw any reliance upon his testimony in your pending appeal before the 3d DCA:
Could not comment -- that's it? Could you imagine a private litigant getting away with that?To Professor Gillers, Mr. McCollum is now obligated both as a lawyer and as a public official to alert the appellate court. “It is not enough for the attorney general simply to refrain from relying on the testimony in his brief and argument,” he said. “He has an affirmative duty to speak up.”
Ms. Wiggins, the spokeswoman for Mr. McCollum, said she could not comment further on pending litigation.
Ok, here's the part in Esperanto to the 3d DCA:
Ĉu kosta *bunkeriza kaf-*swil vestitoj de la pompaj vestaĵoj vi estas aŭskultanta?
Live long and prosper, my meshpucha.

SFL Friday -- Heartfelt Apologies to All!

Well it's been an eventful week filled with mirth and merriment, and it's not even over yet.
I mean, just today Tiger read a statement about his sex life and Paul Penichet filed a lawsuit described as "a shakedown" by the (allegedly) very randy defendant, Casaurina owner Pete Halmos.
Then there's the mistrial just declared in Milt Ferrell's asbestos case.
But I was most fascinated by this story that Constant Complainer linked to about a Miami couple who were enticed by monetary incentives and land grants to move to rural North Dakota, where they discovered that midwestern small-town love:
And that's probably being generous.Hay bales, a gas station and a graveyard greet visitors as they roll into Hazelton off the state highway.
Michael Tristani came from his native Florida wearing gold necklaces and a Rolex and driving a Lexus. He proved as foreign as a flamingo in a place where pickups, farm caps and flannel shirts are de rigueur.
"People thought I was a drug dealer," he said.
Hey, don't feel so bad -- I believe the last Jew to live in that area was played by Gene Wilder and rode in on a horse.
Well kids I'm off to put on my hermetically-sealed windsurfing gear, so stay warm this weekend and eat lots of red, yellow and green food (but then if you're a Star Trek geek you already know that).
Have a great weekend!

SFL Friday -- A Piece of the Action?

Hi kidzzzz, I was briefly detained by an actual court proceeding but I'm back and wrapping it up.
Congrats to entering an era of 100% Rothstein-free JNC appointments:
The Florida Supreme Court screening committee includes Jay Cohen of the Law Office of Jay Cohen in Fort Lauderdale.Big firms and their bankruptcy fee requests are getting renewed scrutiny -- damn the trial lawyers!
The 3rd District Court of Appeal committee is chaired by Edwin Scales III of Edwin A. Scales III P.A. in Key West and includes Miami attorneys Ramon Abadin of Abadin Cook, Dori Foster-Morales of Elser & Foster-Morales, Juliet Roulhac of Julie Roulhac P.A. and Michael Higer of Higer Lichter & Givner of Aventura.
The 4th District Court of Appeal committee is chaired by Cohen and includes Greg Coleman of Burman Critton Luttier & Coleman in West Palm Beach, Eugene Pettis of Haliczer Pettis & Schwamm in Fort Lauderdale, David Prather of Lytal Reiter Clark Fountain & Williams in West Palm Beach and Lisa Small of Small & Small in Palm Beach.
And Marc Nurik has room in his briefcase for a few photos:
"We want to pick up those photos,'' Nurik said. "I don't know why his personal photos have to be auctioned off, and I'm going to talk to the trustee about that. His personal items should be returned to him.''I don't know, I don't believe this issue was addressed anywhere in the Dreier sentencing memo.
I'll go Marc one step further -- I'd like to see an entire civilization formed exclusively upon the Dreier sentencing memo, you know like that classic Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action," where an entire culture was built upon a book about Chicago mobsters of the 1920s.
Ok, maybe that's where Scott's head was at after all.
Oh well, time to watch cartoons and eat cereal all day, stare at the perfect female face, pour another drink, and of course stick to my diet.
I've always been into having my hands manicured but either way put your hands on something worthwhile this holiday season -- you'll feel better for it.
Have a great weekend!

Scotty Was Right!

I love it when science catches up to science fiction, especially when it involves Star Trek:
Oxford scientists have created a transparent form of aluminium by bombarding the metal with the world’s most powerful soft X-ray laser. 'Transparent aluminium' previously only existed in science fiction, featuring in the movie Star Trek IV, but the real material is an exotic new state of matter with implications for planetary science and nuclear fusion.See Mom? I told you it was educational.
